HOW TO BE GOOD AT FRENCH – PART 1
1.
Start speaking French (now)
You might feel uncomfortable the first time you try speaking French, but getting used to it and slowly building your confidence is a vital early step. Fortunately, there are many ways to learn how to speak French, and you can even do some of them from the comfort of your own home. Here are some of our favorite ways to improve your French speaking skills.
2.
Read in French every day.
It
doesn’t matter what – just get reading! The most important thing is to read on
a topic that interests you. If you’re into cooking – read a French food
blog. If you like reading women’s magazines, why not read the online
French versions of magazines like Marie
Claire and Vogue? Current events
your thing? Check out French newspapers, Le Monde or Libération. For literature
lovers, read a book you’ve enjoyed in English, in French. Remember to write
down any vocabulary you don’t know so you can look them up later.
3.
Lock yourself in the room and talk to yourself in French in front of a mirror
Your
elders might have suggested you before too but it seriously works. Chat with
yourself in front of the mirror; if possible enact a role play be it a
teacher-student, cook, a French actor delivering a speech, etc. It facilitates
an improvement in giving a response in French in distinct situations. This will
also remove hesitation as well in overcoming pauses that usually strike while
trying to speak a new language.
4.
Watch movies and TV shows in French
Movies and TV shows are excellent tools for learning foreign languages. If you love watching movies in your free time, why not watch them in French? This activity will help you better understand the communication patterns of the language and get a grasp of the culture. An additional benefit of watching French movies is that they stimulate your brain to think in French.
