How to be Successfully Student in your School

Being a successful student is not a child's play. It requires utmost devotion, a student success plan, hard work, and a passion for being successful in life.

If you genuinely wish to be a successful student in your School or College, there are student success strategies that can prove to be helpful to the achievement of your goal.

Keep studies as your first priority

A good student never ignores his studies and Keep their studies on the topmost priority list. Managing time for friends, relatives, and family is also important but not by ignoring your studies because what you have learned will remain lifelong with you. You should never neglect the time which is meant for your studies.

Take part in Classroom & School Activities

Participating in various activities conducted in the school makes you an active member. You should actively take part in classroom activities as well by answering the questions of your teachers and clearing your doubts. Being attentive in the class helps students to understand better.

Stay active in daily classroom activities & become a part of all the activities being organized in school as well as in the classroom, if possible. This will help you develop a good relationship with your teachers & other fellow students.

Pay attention to What Teachers teach

Always pay attention to what the teachers say in the classroom.  This not only shows respect towards them but also it is useful for the students to understand and grasp the subject easily. It also helps them to improve listening skills.

Paying attention in class is absolutely necessary to become successful in life as a student. Keep your eyes & ears open to what the teacher is teaching.

While it’s obvious that you don’t need to love every single subject, but its’ also important to avoid all distractions nearby you & stay active when your teacher is teaching in the classroom. It is better listening to him/her carefully in the class rather than chatting with your friends or to remain confused throughout the day.

Set Smart Goals

In students’ life, the very first benefit of setting a goal is to achieve success in their academic life. It marks their first step towards success. Setting a smart goal is important for your future bright. S.M.A.R.T goal stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely. This helps them to achieve what they want to be in life and work according to their goals.

The Importance of Reading and Taking Effective Notes

Last week we looked at how to plan your time when you are studying. This week we’re concentrating on how to take notes effectively.

Enrolling on a writing course is only the first step. Now you have to study the materials you receive and finding an effective way of doing this can be difficult, especially if you have been out of any formal education for a while.

So, how do you take effective notes? Well, it’s easy really, just follow one of the methods given below and I’m sure you’ll soon be back in the swing of things:

The Cornell Method here’s an example of the system: lsc.cornell.edu

Plan your Revision

More than 20 years after I last sat an exam of any kind, I still get a recurring nightmare about not having started my revision in time! Chore though it is, you can never really spend too long revising. Teachers will tell you that it's generally easier to spend a small amount of time each day revising over a long period than to try to cram in all your revision the night before your exam. But different strategies work for different people.

Some people find concentrated revision suits them best. Some prefer to revise one subject entirely before proceeding with another topic; others prefer to alternate revision between different subjects. As you become proficient at exams, you should find a pattern that works for you. One good tip is to make revision a habit: treat it like a job and make yourself revise between certain set times of the day whether you feel like it or not. No-one ever feels like revising, but if you get into a routine where you always begin and end at the same time, you'll find it a whole lot easier.

Another good tip is to intersperse your revision with relaxing activities to stop your brain overloading. Go for walks, listen to music, hang out with friends, play sports—whatever you like— as long as you understand the distinction between break and distractions. Probably give reading books a miss until your revision is done, however.

QUALITIES OF A GOOD SCHOOL

1. Focused professional development

A strong emphasis is placed on training staff in areas of most need. Feedback from learning and teaching focuses extensive and ongoing professional development. The support is also aligned with the school or district vision and objectives.

2. Supportive learning environment

The school has a safe, civil, healthy and intellectually stimulating learning environment. Students feel respected and connected with the staff and are engaged in learning. Instruction is personalized and small learning environments increase student contact with teachers.

3. High level of family and community involvement

There is a sense that all have a responsibility to educate students, not just teachers and staff in schools. Families, as well as businesses, social service agencies, and community colleges & universities, all play a vital role in this effort.

4. A great school offers a clean and well-organised environment that is conducive to learning.

One excellent way to support better learning in school is to provide the students with a clean and well-organised environment where they can develop their skills and increase their knowledge. A clean and comfortable school setting helps enhance the teaching and learning experience. So saying, a school administrator must rely on a professional cleaning service to maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the school premises. To find professional cleaning services in Australia that offer exclusive school cleaning contracts or provide specialised cleaning services, we at EISAU can help you. Our lists of cleaning contractors are qualified and experienced school cleaners and maintenance staff that have undergone extensive screening and comprehensive training process.

5. A good school must have supportive teachers and administrators.

Teachers are students’ role models. They have a strong influence in shaping a student’s attitude and personality, so it is necessary that they possess admirable qualities which cultivate the students’ talents and abilities. Good teachers are approachable and willing to mentor their students in achieving academic excellence and attaining their personal goals. Likewise, school administrators must be professional and supportive to the needs of the academic staff. Good teachers empower the faculty by creating instructional techniques which nurture their skills and broaden their expertise to become more effective teachers.

6. Curriculum, instruction and assessments aligned with state standards

The planned and actual curricula are aligned with the essential academic learning requirements. Research-based teaching strategies and materials are used. Staff understands the role of classroom and state assessments, what the assessments measure, and how student work is evaluated.

7. Frequent monitoring of learning and teaching

A steady cycle of different assessments identifies students who need help. More support and instructional time are provided, either during the school day or outside normal school hours, to students who need more help. Teaching is adjusted based on frequent monitoring of student progress and needs. Assessment results are used to focus and improve instructional programs.

8. An effective school must have reliable support staff and efficient service providers.

Good schools have excellent support staff (e.g., nurse, doctor, guidance counsellor and psychologist) who are geared to help meet the needs of all the students. Additionally, the school connects with the best suppliers or service providers who deliver quality products (e.g., school playground equipment, school supplies, art supplies and library supplies) and efficient services that meet the needs of the school community.

9. An exceptional school works to build a safe learning environment for students.

An effective school is a place where students feel safe, physically and emotionally. It is a supportive community where the teachers and students collaborate and focus on achieving better learning. Hence, it is free of negative behaviours, like bullying and harassment. Instead of serving punishment as a means to discipline the students, the school might focus on preventing student misbehaviours by implementing disciplinary actions that are safe for the student and helpful to the community, such as letting the students do social work or community service for a certain period of time.

QUALITIES OF A GOOD TEACHER

Good Teachers Are Engaging

Being able to engage students with humour, creative lessons and a strong classroom presence is an important part of what makes someone a good teacher.

“If you were to envision that teacher that you would want in your life, even now, you’re going to want someone who is very engaging in front of the classroom,” he said. “A good teacher will perform for their students to keep them going... It’s not about sitting back and just lecturing, it’s about engaging in the work.”

What an engaging teacher looks like will vary depending on grade level and subject matter.

In kindergarten, an engaging teacher might be one who gets down on the floor to do activities with their students on their level. In high school, an engaging teacher may be one who thinks outside the box, adds humour to their lessons and finds creative ways to bring learning into the real world.

Good Teachers Have Patience

No matter what grade level you're teaching, your patience will be tested while working as an educator.

Whether you’re managing classroom behaviour, working with colleagues with different views, or communicating student issues or progress with parents, patience is one of the most important skills to practice as a teacher.

More often than not you actually have to have more patience with the parents than you do with the students. “Parents are coming in with their perceptions of what happened to them when they were students or previous experiences that may have been detrimental to their child... You have to be patient and understanding of them.”

The Benefits of Trees in Schools

Education is, of course, an investment in the future. Nurturing the mind of a child is challenging, expensive, and time-intensive, and takes the dedication and expertise of an entire community of professionals for over a decade to complete. But in the end it pays off in order to foster a populace who can productively participate in and improve our society, and ultimately nurture and support the next generation in addition to past ones. Trees are also, of course, an investment in the future.

Like schoolchildren, they can sometimes be messy or temperamental and require more care than we may have energy for, but they are absolutely worth the investment because they will grow to enhance our communities and to give back both in the short term and far into the future. Education and tree planting are two of the best investments we can make for a prosperous future, so what could be better than combining the two, and planting trees at schools?

Provide Shade

While we do not reach temperatures as high as overseas, it can still prove tricky to cool down during the warmer months. Trees are in full bloom in the summer, which creates the perfect shaded spot for pupils that prefer a cooler environment away from the sunshine while remaining outdoors.

Many schools strategically plant trees around recreation spaces that are known for being suntraps. It allows the areas to cool down, so pupils can still enjoy the fresh air without the sweltering heat. This is particularly beneficial for primary schools as younger children should try to limit sun exposure as much as possible. The School Run has more great tips on how you can promote sun safety in primary schools.

Create Outdoor Learning Space

While it may seem a little less convenient to take the classroom outside, you would be surprised at the plethora of benefits outdoor learning can have on children’s development. As a teacher, you will empathise with the struggle of trying to persuade pupils to look away from the window on a warm day and towards the board, so feed their curiosity and take the lesson outside! If you have an area surrounded by trees, this creates the perfect outdoor classroom space. It will enhance their focus when they step back into the classroom, and they will be able to use the sights, sounds and smells around them to boost their concentration and be away from the distraction of the outside world through the window.

Improves Air Quality

Whether we want to plant trees, shrubs or flowers, plants as a whole are renowned for improving the overall air quality. They have proven air-purification properties, which are capable of absorbing harmful gases such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), along with the traditional carbon dioxide.

Plants clean the air through a process that we are all more than aware of, photosynthesis. Through the leaves, they absorb carbon dioxide and any potentially harmful chemicals and breathe out fresh, pure oxygen. It promotes the circulation of clean, healthy air, which is particularly beneficial for those suffering from conditions such as asthma and nausea. This is why when you’re feeling sick or have a headache, stepping outside for fresh air makes you instantly feel better.

Planting trees in schools and colleges is an investment in the future, creating a sustainable environment and providing numerous benefits to students, staff, and the community. By emphasizing the importance of tree plantation, educational institutions foster a sense of environmental responsibility, while enhancing the learning environment and promoting physical and mental well-being. Let us continue to prioritize tree plantation in schools, nurturing young minds and creating a greener and healthier future for generations to come.

IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION TO OUR SOCIETY

Creating More Employment Opportunities

Finding a job is not easy, especially in times of economic turmoil. You often need to compete with hundreds of other candidates for a vacant position. In addition, the lower the education level, the greater the number of people applying for the same low-paying entry-level post. However, with the right qualifications and educational background, you will increase your chances of landing a fulfilling job. Would you like to find a way to stand out from a pool of applicants? Learn, educate yourself, graduate and get as many qualifications, skills, knowledge, and experience as possible.

Better quality of life for vulnerable populations

The more educated people are, the better they will understand the world around them, and will be better able to improve their own life and the lives of others. This progress is particularly noticeable in vulnerable populations where education is the best solution for creating better perspectives and achieving success, both when it comes to individuals, and community as a whole.
