How a Teacher can Improve Learning Environment

1. Build positive relationships

Building positive relationships with your students helps them feel as though they can come to you with questions on assignments or when they're facing a challenge. Many of them may appreciate knowing they have someone they can trust and to whom they can confide. You can build rapport with your students by taking time to interact with them individually, listening to their comments or concerns and showing enthusiasm when they come to you to share their experiences and stories.

2. Address Student Needs

Remember that students, like adults, not have only physical needs, but also important psychological needs for security and order, love and belonging, personal power and competence, freedom and novelty, and fun. Students are driven to meet all of these needs all the time, not just two or three of them. When teachers intentionally address these needs in the classroom, students are happier to be there, behavior incidents occur far less frequently, and student engagement and learning increase.

3. Robust teacher-student relationships

Building a strong teacher-student relationship requires a combination of trust, respect, positive communication, and guidance. Teachers should strive to communicate clearly and effectively with their students, using positive language that encourages and motivates them. Teacher feedback is also an essential part of student growth. Teachers should provide feedback that is specific, actionable, and focused on helping students improve their skills and knowledge. At the same time, they should provide guidance and support to help students overcome any challenges or obstacles they may encounter. Transparent communication and constructive feedback help build trust and respect and forms the foundation of lifelong learning.
