Importance of doing Past Papers
1. You will understand marks allocation
It is good to know how your marks are allocated. Not only will it help to know which topics guarantee you a pass, but it will help you to allocate time as per the exam needs.
Most students say, focus on the topic with more marks. But what happens when you don’t get the maximum marks in that topic/question? We therefore say, do all questions and treat them equally. But it does not end here.
2. Enables you to focus on Common Exam Themes
When you take time in checking past examinations, you will be able to see certain similarities or themes in them that can be covered in the real exam.
Your teachers know they cannot fit every key fact from your lessons on the exam, so they will just select the ones that are not just tricky, but also crucial to learn and remember.
3. It’s a form of active revision
Active revision is doing something with the information you’re learning.
In this case, you’re applying it to a specific question and using it to form your answer, then analysing your answer to see how many marks you’d get. Doing so creates structures in your brain that store the information, meaning you’re more likely to actually remember it.
